Applying to UT

The University is not allowed to ask, by law, if a prospective student has a disability. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions reviews each application on its own merits. Students with disabilities must meet the same standards as all other applicants.

If the student discloses a disability during the admissions process, then it is possible that the application may be further reviewed for special admissions consideration.

During the review process members of the review committee will need to have a solid understanding of how the disability has impacted the student's education. Therefore, students may choose to complete the "Optional Personal Statement" as part of the admissions application. The review team will rely heavily on the information that the student supplies in this statement; therefore we strongly encourage students to address how the disability has impacted their learning, when they were diagnosed and used accommodations, what they did to compensate, and why they feel they would be successful at UT and an excellent addition to the UT community.
